Heritage and Business Philosophy
Michael Song’s strategic vision to reposition his family’s global conglomerate HKI from its dominant position in the textile industry to property development has proven on target in the competitive marketplace this past decade. His initial goal is to advance the family’s heritage and business sustainability in Taiwan.
As Mr. Song empowers HKI with innovation to meet future market demands, he follows his elder’s traditional teachings closely: “To invest successfully in any country, one must not only accurately analyze the future business and industry trend, but also commit to help drive the growth and development of the local economy.” Therefore, under Mr. Song’s leadership, HKI will commit to bringing international experience, technology and resources to Taiwan.
Mr. Song said, “Family memories I cherish the most are lessons I learned when I worked closely with my grandpa in the factory. We started the workday daily at 8 a.m., worked all three shifts with more than 30,000 employees, and after dinner I’d return to check the factory again till past 9 p.m.. I gained an in-depth understanding of the duties of each factory position and the overall production operation. During the day, I’d also accompany my grandpa at corporate management meetings, which taught me not only business strategies, but also that each decision process affected not only the dominance of market position and profits, more importantly, the lives and future of every one of our 30,000+ employees.
Mr. Song strongly believes in the heritage of his family’s business philosophy : “Trust in your vision to make the key decision, have confidence to arbitrate with your mind, but ultimately decide with your heart; consider every action and its reactions.” Mr. Song said, ”this philosophy behind every balanced and well thought out decision has been the best education foundation provided by my elder. It applies to investment and business strategies of any sizable stake in any industry by HKI, and has given me the foundation to envision our goals.”
Mr. Song emphasized, “Even though I grew up abroad, I love Taiwan, because here I am “at home”, where the cultural conflicts and the sense of nonexistence I experienced abroad simply disappear. A decade ago, I was determined to relocate HKI to Taiwan following my family’s business philosophy, and together we will continue make Taiwan a better place.”
